Hebrews 11:11

And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who made the promise.

“So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “after I am worn out and my Lord is old, will I now have the pleasure Gen 18: 12 (NIV).” Imagine a 99 year old woman bearing a child. Better yet, imagine a 99 year old woman telling her doctor that she may be pregnant.  I can see it now, the psychiatric evaluations, the intense testing of hormones, the mind and body.

Although science may minimize or dismiss the mere possibility of someone like Sarah giving birth at 99 years old, Sarah herself laughed in disbelief upon hearing the news of her conceiving or bearing a child (Gen. 18:12).  She thought she was worned out and Abraham too old.  Scientifically speaking it is inconceivable for a woman to conceive after a certain late age. The female reproductive system (ovaries, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes) shrinks, hormones ceases normal production. There is little to no sex drive.  Sarah had a miracle for sure, by faith a child was conceived by a very old man, a worn out 99 year old was able to successfully bear a child and her reproductive system restored made anew only for that purpose.  God is however faithful, and He always keeps his promise, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son (Gen18: 10).”

Prayer

Help us Lord to not waver and to believe in your promises every day. Just like Abraham we want our faith to grow stronger for we are convinced that God, you are able to do whatever you promised.
